a) words happen / to be when the mouth is out & about b) trigger(s) men to language fingers learn to sense the rub / of computer keys the layout where individual letters seem to attain sin c) overnighter coffee: makes you susceptible to a cold case of bad puns with their pleasant disguise of duality a few light words seem affected by darkness: words like nectar, honey and skin d) the frightened sparks off candles' stoic wicks make self-conversations flicker / like a nervous twitch while the concentration of amber light tempts you to stare faithfully at the blue center of each flame e) something happens when you look into fire its blue essence makes you forget the heat emitting makes you touch makes you describe fire as though fire belonged in the ocean

Chris Macalino is an artist and writer who was born in Philippines and then moved to Canada in the early 90s. His work has appeared in 'The Breath E-zine', 'The Manitoban', 'tart' (eleven), 'Speaking Crow', 'Circle Magazine' and 'Stirring'. Currently, Macalino lives in Winnipeg where he is collaborating with many artists for the "Throat Ocean Project".
